Dawn Approach Retires To Kildangan Stud

Tuesday, 22nd October 2013

Meanwhile, top UK colt Dawn Approach (New Approach-Hymn of the Dawn, by Phone Trick) has also been retired and will stand at Darley's Kildangan Stud in County Kildare next year, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The decision was made to lower the curtain on the 4-time Gr1 winner's career following his fourth-placed effort behind Olympic Glory in last Saturday's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot. Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "The ground worked against him, which blunted his turn of foot. But he's won four of the best races in the calendar so his record has been fantastic." Crisford continued, "He is now retiring to stud at Kildangan and we are very much looking forward to his progeny in the future. Godolphin are so proud of him." Dawn Approach, who was crowned champion 2YO last season, retires the winner of 8 of 12 starts for earnings of £922,494. His Gr1 victories were the National Stakes at The Curragh, the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, the 2,000 Guineas & the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot in June where he defeated fellow crack 3YO Toronado.
