Arqana October Yearling Sale Day-1: Average Up 19%

On the opening day of the Arqana October Yearling Sale at Deauville in France, 133 yearlings (164 offered) sold for a total of €7,585,000 (including private sales), up nearly 19 per cent on the corresponding day last year. The average price of €57,030 was up nearly 15.5 per cent on last year while this year's median was €42,000 compared to €38,000 in 2012. Competition for the best yearlings was strong, with 16 yearlings selling for €100,000 or more compared to 10 last year. The top-priced lot of the day was a colt by Mastercraftsman which was knocked down to Demi O'Byrne for €320,000. Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, the colt is a half-brother to French stakes winner La Peinture from the family of Peintre Celebre.
