Forgotten Voice Favoured For Gr3 Geelong Cup

Wednesday, 23rd October 2013

Today's $300,000 Gr3 Geelong Cup (2400m) has attracted a field of 10 horses with the Nicky Henderson-trained Irish galloper Forgotten Voice (Danehill Dancer-Asnieres, by Spend a Buck) to start favourite after being the medium of heavy support during the week. Despite his advancing years, the 9YO son of Danehill Dancer arrives in Australia in tremendous form having saluted at his last two outings, namely in the Gr3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood (2400m) & the Listed Wolferton Handicap (2000m) at Royal Ascot. Forgotten Voice narrowly missed a start in Saturday's Caulfield Cup when the Melbourne Racing Club exercised its discretionary powers to elevate Julienas into the field at its expense. Currently 38th in the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup, connections will be hoping he can win today's race to force his way into the Cup field. And if history is any guide he has a realistic chance, with the Geelong Cup establishing itself as one of the best form references for the Melbourne Cup with past winners Dunaden (2011), Americain (2010) & Media Puzzle (2002) going on to claim Cup glory on the first Tuesday in November. The Peter Moody-trained Ibicenco is likely to prove the toughest to beat for Forgotten Voice.
