Fort Larned Progressing Well For Breeders' Cup

Thursday, 24th October 2013

Last year's Breeders' Cup Classic winner Fort Larned (E Dubai-Arlucea, by Broad Brush) took a major step in preparation for his title defence when galloping five furlongs in the fastest time of the morning at Churchill Downs on Tuesday, reports usatoday.com. "He seems like he's the Fort Larned of last year," said jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. "Hopefully he's the best horse again (next) Saturday." Fort Larned worked with multiple stakes-winner Neck 'n Neck, who strode two-three lengths clear before Fort Larned cut back the deficit with ease. "He went by Neck 'n Neck really easy today," said Hernandez Jnr. "I was surprised how easily he did it. And his gallop-out was really impressive." When asked if the impressive workout reminded him of Fort Larned's equivalent workout before last year's Classic victory, trainer Ian Wilkes said with a laugh, "I've got a couple of weeks to answer that one."
