Galileo & Atlantic Jewel Mating Confirmed
Reported yesterday as being likely, Atlantic Jewel has officially been retired and will leave Australia later this year for Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary, Ireland, where she will be served by champion stallion Galileo, reports NZ Racing Desk. The superstar Australian mare succumbed to a tendon injury this week and retires the winner of 10 of 11 career starts including four elite victories, namely the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes, Gr1 Memsie Stakes, Gr1 All Aged Stakes & Gr1 Thousand Guineas for earnings of $1,587,925. Coolmore general manager Michael Kirwan commented: "It is a very difficult decision but it's not a hard one. You have to make it, that's it," he said. "She'll do 30 days quarantine here at Coolmore before she leaves for Ireland, which will probably be in December. She will be served by Galileo in February. She deserves to be covered by the best stallion in the world and I think he's proven to be that."
