Godolphin Pleased With Melbourne Cup Prospect

Thursday, 24th October 2013

Godolphin's Royal Empire (Teofilo-Zeiting, by Zieten) is among a large group of international raiders who have arrived in Australia with hopes of winning the $6.2 million Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 5. The 4YO entire travelled from his base in Newmarket, England, via a private charter flight and is currently in quarantine at the Werribee International Horse Centre, reports gulfnews.com. Royal Empire, who was aimed at the Melbourne Cup after his dominant win in the Gr3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August, pleased his trainer Saeed Bin Surror when working at Newmarket prior to his departure. "He is looking very well at the moment and I was pleased with him," Suroor said. Royal Empire, the winner of 5 of 13 starts, is bidding to become Godolphin's first winner of the Melbourne Cup.
