Nine Previous Winners Underscores Breeders' Cup Depth
Demonstrating the outstanding quality of equine talent that will be on display at this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park from November 1st to 2nd, is the fact that nine winner's from last year's Breeders' Cup meeting will be returning this year. The best racehorses from the United States and Europe will descend on the California track to compete in 14 events for a share of the huge US$25 million prize-money on offer. Bloodhorse.com reports that last year's victors Fort Larned (Breeders' Cup Classic), Royal Delta (Distaff), Wise Dan (Mile), Little Mike (Turf), Groupie Doll (Filly & Mare Sprint), Beholder (Juvenile Fillies), Mizdirection (Geico Turf Sprint), Flotilla (Juvenile Fillies Turf) and Trinniberg (Xpressbet Sprint) are back in 2013 to defend their titles. In addition, nine others who placed in last year's Breeders' Cup will be heading back for their shot at redemption, namely Mucho Macho Man, Flat Out, Point of Entry, Marketing Mix, The Fugue, Obviously, Capo Bastone, The Lumber Guy, and Reneesgotzip. When you also consider that the likes of Princess Of Sylmar, North America's best filly, Belmont Stakes hero Palace Malice, Travers winner Will Take Charge, Game On Dude, Declaration Of War, Olympic Glory & possibly the latter's stable mate, Toronado, will also be competing, then it's easy to see why the Breeders' Cup meet deserves to be ascribed its 'World Championships' moniker.
