No Dirt Concerns For Declaration
Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien is not anticipating any problems when star galloper Declaration Of War (War Front-Tempo West, by Rahy) races on dirt for the first time in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on November 2, reports ukracing.com. The US-bred son of War Front has not run since scoring an impressive victory in the Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August and will travel to the US on Tuesday along with stable mates Giovanni Boldini, Wilshere Boulevard, Magician & Cristoforo Colombo. "He's an incredible horse and has an unbelievable constitution," O'Brien said. "He is a great traveller and it will be interesting." O'Brien rightly pointed to Declaration Of War's breeding as the reason why he is confident he will handle the dirt surface. "There's plenty of dirt in his sire and the dam, and we are looking forward to seeing him run. He's in good shape and we are very happy with him." Perhaps the biggest factor in Declaration Of War's favour is that his exciting sire War Front, who stands at the famous Claiborne Stud in Kentucky, was himself a top-class dirt sprinter. His career-best performance was on dirt when winning the Gr2 Alfred G Vanderbilt Handicap (1200m) at Saratoga in 2006.
