Singleton Launches On Demi In Cup

Friday, 25th October 2013

Meanwhile, as the Melbourne Cup jigsaw continues to be assembled with the arrival of more international entries in recent days, owner John Singleton has placed a signifcant piece in the corner of local hope Dear Demi (Dehere-Shirley, by Zabeel) in the form of a cross nation betting plunge, reports dailytelegraph.com.au. Yesterday, he "backed Dear Demi to win $6 million in the Melbourne Cup", which, if she salutes and takes home the $3.6 million first placed cheque will add almost $10 million to the owner's coffers. Singleton commented, "If Dear Demi can win the Cup, then it will be a $10 million result for me ... I've got average odds of 60/1 and I've put $100,000 on her to win the race ... My trainer, Clarry Conners, maintains she will run top five and they pay prizemoney of $120,000 if you finish sixth to eighth." He added, This mare needs racing to get fit so she will run in the Mackinnon Stakes and that will have her ready for the Melbourne Cup."
