Breeders' Cup-Bound Sprinter Euthanased

Monday, 28th October 2013

Points Offthebench (Benchmark-Mo Chuisle, by Free House), a leading Gr1 Breeder's Cup Sprint contender, has been euthanased after fracturing a fetlock during trackwork at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, reports bloodhorse.com. The Californian-bred 4YO gelding was coming into the Breeder's Cup off two successive Gr1 victories in the Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar & the Sprint Championship Stakes at Santa Anita. "He sustained a condylar fracture in his right front. You can't describe it – it's sad," said trainer Tim Yakteen." Part-owner Charles Martin said, " He's been a tremendous horse. He was the nicest horse you would ever find. Tim's assistant trainer, John (Applegarth), wrote something on Facebook recently about how excited he was to go to work every day knowing they had the fastest racehorse in North America. I'm sure everyone in the barn is devastated." Points Offthebench won 6 of his 8 starts for US$514,940 earnings.
