Kingston Hill Wins UK Gr1 Racing Post Trophy

Monday, 28th October 2013

At Doncaster in the UK, 4-time Gr1-winning NZ Windsor Park shuttler & former European Champion 2YO Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer-Starlight Dreams, by Black Tie Affair) celebrated his first Gr1 winner when 2YO colt Kingston Hill (Mastercraftsman-Audacieuse, by Rainbow Quest) scored an emphatic 4.5-lengths win for trainer Roger Varian in the £260,000 Gr1 Racing Post Trophy (8 furlongs) for 2YOs, over fellow colts Johann Strauss (High Chaparral-Inchmina, by Cape Cross) & Altruistic (Galileo-Altesse Imperiale, by Rock of Gibraltar). This was the undefeated Kingston Hill's first victory at the elite level, and the first for his sire, taking his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket) from 3 starts for £176,926 earnings. Trainer Roger Varian has big plans for his exciting colt, and told racingpost.com post-race: " He's a beautiful mover and next year will be an open book. He has a great cruising speed and turn of foot so you wouldn't rule out the Guineas. He'll be in everything and we'll see how he develops over the winter and trains in the spring."
