Monday, 28th October 2013

At Moonee Valley, Gr1-winning & dual Gr1-placed Arrowfield Stud stallion Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 3YO colt Shamus Award (Snitzel-Sunset Express, by Success Express) broke his maiden status in sensational style when scoring by 0.1-length for trainer Danny O'Brien in the $3 million Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Happy Trails (Good Journey-Madame Flurry, by Perugino) & 6YO imported entire Fiorente (Monsun-Desert Bloom, by Pilsudski). A $230,000 yearling consigned by Vinery Stud at the 2012 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney, Shamus Award created history by becoming the first maiden galloper ever to win the WS Cox Plate and took his record to a win & 7 placings (including the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, Gr2 Stutt Stakes, Gr2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes, Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate, Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes & Listed MRC Chairman's Stakes) from 10 starts for $2,112,500 earnings.
