Edgar Britt Celebrates 100th Birthday
Legendary Australian jockey Edgar Britt was honoured at a special luncheon to celebrate his 100th birthday at Royal Randwick yesterday. Hosted by Racing New South Wales and the Australian Turf Club, the lunch was attended by a host of fellow jockeys including Darren Beadman, Ron Quinton, Ray Selkrig, Cliff Clare, Maurice Logue, Bill Camer, & champion NSW apprentice Sam Clipperton. Other attendees included John Messara AM (Chairman of RNSW), Peter V'landys (CEO, RNSW), John Cornish (Chairman, ATC), & Peter McGauran (CEO, Australian Racing Board). "Edgar is a legend within our industry and this is the least we can do to honour this great man on his 100th birthday," said John Messara. Britt is one of 33 jockeys inducted into the Australian Racing Museum's Hall of Fame and during his distinguished career won in excess of 2,000 races on four continents. Edgar was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2004 for his services to horse racing as a jockey, commentator and journalist.
