Stud Career Beckons For Puissance De Lune
One-time Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune (Shamardal-Princess Serena, by Unbridled's Song) is heading for the spelling paddock with his racing future in doubt after pulling up lame in Saturday's Gr1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, reports horseracing.com.au. Owner Gerry Ryan says he will await the results of scans before making any decisions about the French-bred galloper's future but confirmed that a stud career was a possibility. "That's racing. You move on. I am just really fortunate that a Bendigo Cup winner has gone on to do so well and give me a lot of thrills," Ryan said. "There is always a stud career." In Puissance De Lune's absence, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente has been promoted to favouritism for the Melbourne Cup.
