Coolmore Rivals On Alert After Brilliant Zoustar Gallop
Exciting 3YO Zoustar (Northern Meteor-Zouzou, by Redoute's Choice) submitted a brilliant piece of track work yesterday morning that thrilled trainer Chris Waller ahead of Saturday's $500,000 Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, reports horseracing.com.au. The valuable colt was beaten in his first Melbourne gallop at Flemington last Friday, but put that effort well and truly behind him when displaying a powerful turn of foot to defeat stable mate Moriarty on Tuesday. "I don't need to clock him, I've got clocks in my eyes," Waller said. "It was brilliant, as good as I could have hoped. He learned a lot from last week, that was the idea of the exercise and today we pushed him a little harder." Waller said he wanted to work Zoustar with Moriarty because the latter is renowned as a "sharp" worker, and he felt it would bring out the best in the star colt. There are unconfirmed reports that a $20 million stud deal is being put together for Zoustar, but Waller feels that figure may be an underestimation come this weekend. "I think he might be worth a little more after Saturday," a confident Waller said. Zoustar has won 5 of his 7 starts, including the Gr1 Golden Rose, for $1,104,180 earnings.
