International Heavyweights Eye HK International Meeting
Outstanding French mare Moonlight Cloud, Japan's champion sprinter Lord Kanaloa and new middle-distance star Just A Way could head the large foreign contingent vying for the huge HK$72 million in prize money on offer at the Longines Hong Kong International Races (HKIR) on December 8, reports racing.scmp.com. There were 241 first-stage entries from nineteen countries released by the Hong Kong Jockey Club on Monday, down from 267 the previous year. Many of the 68 Gr1 winners nominated will not be present, but it is expected that Moonlight Cloud, Lord Kanaloa, Sky Lantern & Cirrus des Aigles will take part. Among Australia's 11 entries that are possible candidates include Gr2-winning sprinter Happy Galaxy, the David Hayes-trained Jet Away and Irish St Leger winner Voleuse de Coeurs, recently taken over by Melbourne trainer Mike Moroney for a Hong Kong-based ownership. The European entries for the International Vase (2400m) are strong, with the past two winners, Dunaden and Red Cadeaux, among them. Joshua Tree, a previous visitor who won his third Gr1 Canadian International at Woodbine on the weekend, is also nominated and is likely to finish his career in the race.
