Schofield On Standby For Kingdoms Cup Mount
Cox Plate winning apprentice Chad Schofield is on standby to ride promising 4YO stayer Kingdoms (High Chaparral-A Real Princess, by O'Reilly) in the Melbourne Cup should he win the $300,000 Gr3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on Saturday, reports theinformant.co.nz. The winner of the Lexus gains an automatic entry into Tuesday's Cup and O'Shea confirmed that Kingdoms would start if successful. "If he won he'd be running in the Cup," O'Shea said. "We've got Chad Schofield on standby." Kingdoms, who showed a glimpse of his staying ability when finishing third behind It's A Dundeel in this year's Australian Derby, is a last-start winner of the Listed City Tattersalls Club Cup at Randwick, but trainer John O'Shea is confident the son of High Chaparral will be better suited racing the Melbourne direction. "All the Melbourne stayers have sort of been racing each other and he's the fresh form-line," O'Shea said. "He handled Flemington really well and if anything that way of going suits him. He's a progressive young stayer who is coming right at the right time."
