Fugue Has First Look At Santa Anita

Thursday, 31st October 2013

Breeders' Cup Turf favourite The Fugue (Dansili-Twyla Tharp, by Sadler's Wells) has impressed connections in her first track gallop since arriving in California, reports ukracing.com. The 4YO mare, who was a luckless third in last year's Filly & Mare Turf, has enjoyed a stellar season in Europe this year, winning the Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks & Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes at her last two outings.  Early on Tuesday morning, wearing four bright blue protective bandages on her legs, and a distinctive black breast girth, The Fugue was sent out for a routine breeze of the Santa Anita track, impressing John Gosden's head lad Les Reynolds. "We took her on to the main track, where she just jogged around for a circuit, which is the same routine as when she was here last year. She then went round the paddock a couple of times," commented Reynolds. "We're very happy with her. She shipped in great and we're delighted with the way she's travelled. She was very alert when she got into the barn last night." Gosden and The Fugue's regular rider William Buick are expected at Santa Anita on Wednesday.
