Verrazano To Retire After Breeders' Cup Clash
Exciting US galloper Verrazano (More Than Ready-Enchanted Rock, by Giant's Causeway), a two-time Gr1-winning 3YO, will make his final racetrack appearance in Friday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita, reports drf.com. The top-class son of More Than Ready will stand the 2014 season at Coolmore's Ashford Stud. Verrazano has thus far won 6 of his 8 starts, including the Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct & the Gr1 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth, a race he won by a record 9.75-lengths, for earnings of US$1,556,300. His 116 Beyer Speed Figure in the Haskell is the highest earned by a 3YO this year. "Verrazano is a very welcome addition to the roster here at Ashford, which will be the strongest we've ever assembled," said Charlie O'Connor, Ashford's director of sales. "Verrazano's brilliance is there for all to see, but he's also got the pedigree and looks to match. He's very exciting." Verrazano is a half-brother to Gr2 Risen Star Stakes winner El Padrino (Pulpit).
