Katie's Cove Ready For Hawkesbury Guineas
Promising New Zealand filly Katie's Cove (Zabeel-Al Samoud, by Desert Prince) will be tested in stakes company for the first time when she heads across the Tasman for the $150,000 Gr3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) at Hawkesbury on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. Sydney-based Kiwi jockey Jason Collett has been booked to ride the daughter of Zabeel who will jump from barrier 12. Katie's Cove, whom trainer Roger James has described as a "class act", has won her last two starts, at Matamata and most recently at Avondale last Friday, and has yet to finish worse than fourth in five starts. "She deserves the opportunity," James said. "If she can measure up on Saturday, there's the Scone Guineas in a couple of weeks that is worth $400,000 or else she could go to Queensland for the Doomben Roses the same day or a shorter three-year-old race at Doomben." He added, "If she doesn't measure up, she can come home on Monday. It's up to her really to determine her future." Katie's Cove is out of the Desert Prince mare Al Samoud and hails from the family of 4-time Gr1 winner All Our Mob and VATC 1,000 Guineas winner All Time High.
