Doomben Roses New Target For Rock Diva

Friday, 2nd May 2014

Smart Kiwi filly Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) will miss her scheduled engagement in Saturday's Listed Gold Coast Bracelet after trainer Tony Pike and owner Bruce Sherwin of Raffles Farm decided on a last-minute change of plan, reports theinformant.co.nz. Rock Diva, who is a half-sister to Australian Guineas & Australian Derby winner Shamrocker, was due to arrive in Queensland last night but connections expressed concern about running her so soon after her trip. "I talked it over with Bruce and we didn't want to put her through the trip to the Gold Coast just two days after getting off the plane," said Pike. "She can miss the Bracelet and have a quiet week then run in a barrier trial on the 13th (May). She can then go straight to the Doomben Roses." Pike added, "She's pulled up so well from her exhibition gallop at Te Rapa last Saturday. She's fit and doesn't need a run before the Roses." Provided Rock Diva performs well in the Gr2 Doomben Roses (2000m) on 17 May, Pike plans to press on to her main winter target, the Gr1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on 31 May. Rock Diva has proven herself to be one of the best fillies in New Zealand this season, winning the Gr3 Sunline Vase at Ellerslie before finishing third behind Miss Mossman in the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks.'
