Night Of Thunder Wins UK Gr1 2,000 Guineas
At Newmarket in the UK, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Night Of Thunder (Dubawi-Forest Storm, by Galileo) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Richard Hannon in the Gr1 2,000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YOs, over fellow colts Kingman (Invincible Spirit-Zenda, by Zamindar) & Australia (Galileo-Ouija Board, by Cape Cross). Night Of Thunder took his record to 3 wins (including the Listed Doncaster Stakes) and 1 placing (the Gr3 Greenham Stakes) from 4 starts for £287,166 earnings. The win was the first Classic success for trainer Richard Hannon since taking over the training licence from his father. "You grow up at school reading the Racing Post, watching Channel 4 and think you might get there one day, so I am delighted," he told racingpost.com. "I have to say I thought he would run very well. We were a little disappointed after Newbury and it is lovely to see him come back and turn the form round with Kingman."
