Monday, 5th May 2014

At Churchill Downs in the US, two-time US Horse of the Year Wise Dan (Wiseman's Ferry-Lisa Danielle, by Wolf Power) scored by a head for trainer Charles LoPresti in the US$500,000 Gr1 Gr1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (9 furlongs) for 4YO+, over 4YO entire Seek Again (Speightstown-Light Jig, by Danehill) & 7YO entire Boisterous (Distorted Humor-Emanating, by Cox's Ridge). The 7YO gelding took his record to 21 wins (including the Gr1 Maker's 46 Mile Stakes, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile - twice, Gr1 Woodbine Mile Stakes & Gr1 Turf Classic Stakes) & 2 placings (including the Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap) from 28 starts for US$6,802,920 earnings. "He won't let a horse go by him," LoPresti said in reference to the narrow winning margin. "If they get to him, he's not going to let them go by." He added, "The way he has trained and the way he's done, I would say, at this point in time, he's better than he was last year."
