Doomben Cup Swansong For Streama

Tuesday, 6th May 2014

Trainer Guy Walter has indicated the Doomben Cup could be the final racetrack appearance for top-class mare Streama before she embarks on a career at stud, reports horseracing.com.au. Streama (Stratum-Pensiamo, by Sovereign Red) scored her first win since the George Main Stakes last September in Saturday's Gr2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast and was immediately installed as favourite for the Gr1 Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben on 17 May. "The mare's racing days are numbered. She can't have too much racing left," said Walter. "Let's hope we get a Doomben Cup under the belt before the owners send her to stud." The three-time Gr1 winner will head to the breeding barn at the end of her winter campaign and Walter said it would be a fitting end to her illustrious career if she were to bow out a Gr1 winner. "She has been a great mare," Walter said. "I was very proud of her Hollindale win. She has been a lovely horse to train."
