Regally Related Taghrooda Installed Oaks Favourite
The John Gosden-trained Taghrooda (Sea The Stars-Ezima, by Sadler's Wells) surged to the head of the betting for the Investec Oaks after a brilliant 6-length victory in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday, reports racingpost.com. Taghrooda is a daughter of brilliant Derby winner Sea The Stars, who now has a first-crop Classic contender in the Sheikh Hamdan-owned filly. However, whether or not she heads straight to Epsom, Gosden is undecided: "We might go to Epsom for a gallop or go for a trial," he said. "The next trials come a bit quick - the Musidora and Newbury are ten or 12 days away - and then Goodwood comes a little close. We'll see how she's going over the next few days." Taghrooda's pedigree is tailor made for the Oaks, being by Galileo's half-brother Sea The Stars out of stakes-winner Ezima, a daughter of Classic sire par excellence Sadler's Wells. This is the family of Irish Oaks winner Ebadiyla and her Ascot Gold Cup winning siblings, Enzeli and Estimate. If that isn't impressive enough, Taghrooda also descends from one of the finest broodmares in the Stud Book, Frizette, ancestress of the legendary stallions Mr Prospector & Seattle Slew.
