El Roca In Search Of Valuable Gr1

Wednesday, 7th May 2014

Talented New Zealand colt El Roca's (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) early spring campaign will be geared towards achieving one objective, claiming a Gr1 victory in Australia so as to secure his future at stud, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 3YO son of Fastnet Rock went close to achieving that goal when he was twice Gr1-placed in the George Ryder Stakes and Randwick Guineas during the autumn. "The obvious aim is a Group One win to make him a stallion proposition," said Trent Busuttin, who prepares the son of Fastnet Rock at Cambridge with his partner Natalie Young. "He'll come back in from a break on June 1 and later he'll be on a flight back to Melbourne with the Sir Rupert Clarke at Caulfield his main aim and he'll have a lead-up run two weeks before that in the Regal Roller Stakes." To be run at Caulfield on 28 September, the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) boasts an illustrious honour roll with past winners including champion stallions Encosta de Lago and Exceed And Excel, as well as Testa Rossa.
