Atlante Joins Team Hawkes

Friday, 9th May 2014

New Zealand 2,000 Guineas winner Atlante (Fastnet Rock-Readyforcatherine, by More Than Ready) has left the Cambridge stables of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman to do his future racing in Australia under the Team Hawkes banner, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Fastnet Rock colt is currently on a break following a disappointing Sydney autumn carnival that was thwarted by wet tracks. "He's spelling at Wild Oaks near Hawkesbury and he's now under the guidance of the Hawkes operation," said Masterton-based bloodstock agent Bruce Perry, who manages the New Zealand bloodstock interests of Atlante's part-owner Lib Petagna. "He will target the good spring mile races and it's too difficult to get him back here and then get him ready because he needs good ground." Perry added, "The Hawkes' have got good Sydney and Melbourne operations and that gives the horse options on decent tracks – we'll leave it up to them, they're the experts. Murray did an amazing job with the horse to get a Group One and a Group Two placing in Sydney. It was really an impossible task over there given the wet tracks."
