QLD Guineas On Radar For Sabino Speed
Meanwhile, Warwick Farm trainer Amanda Turner is considering the Gr2 Queensland Guineas as a winter target for promising 3YO Sabino Speed (Mossman-Sabino Canyon, by Danehill) if he can continue his progression through the grades at Rosehill this weekend, reports couriermail.com.au. The Mossman gelding is coming off successive wins at Warwick Farm and will be bidding to extend his winning sequence to three when he lines up in the Ken Callander Fellowship Handicap (1200m) on Saturday. "I know it is a bit of a step up but he's gone up 10 points for his two wins and in the back of our mind we're thinking about Brisbane," said Turner, who trains in partnership with Mauro Poletti. "All along we were thinking about the Hawkesbury Guineas but we had a few setbacks and ended up having to go to that midweek at Warwick Farm so thankfully he won that." Turner can take confidence from the fact that the third placed horse, Longma, from his latest win on Anzac Day was successful at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. More importantly, Turner said Sabino Speed's attitude shows that he now knows he's a winner. "He's as well, if not a bit better, going into this race that he has been in his last two," she said. "He really pulled up fantastically in the brain, the best he's pulled up from any run, it's incredible what a win like that can do. He seems to like to dictate and do things on his own terms." The $350,000 Queensland Guineas (1400m) is run at Eagle Farm on 31 May.
