Invincible Spirit Colt Sets New Arqana Breeze Record

Monday, 12th May 2014

The record price for a breezer at Arqana was smashed on Saturday when Nicolas de Watrigant of Mandore International went to €750,000 for a son of Invincible Spirit at the company's Saint-Cloud Breeze-Up Sale, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The previous record of €520,000 was paid by Marco Botti for a Sea The Stars colt at last year's sale. Acting on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing, De Watrigant outbid Coolmore's MV Magnier to secure the colt out of Morning Sun, a half-sister to top German stallion Monsun. Consigned by Grove Stud, the sale was a huge pin-hooking success for Brendan Holland who secured the colt for €55,000 at last year's Arqana October Yearling Sale. "We had a great time on the track last year, and have a stronger than average bunch this year," said Holland, who topped the DBS Breeze-Up Sale with a daughter of Exceed And Excel. "It's a fabulous result, and just goes to show that whatever we're doing at home, we're doing the right thing - and it's great for all the staff." The sale topper contributed to turnover of €6,795,000 (116 horses sold), up 11 per cent on last year. The average price of €76,705 rose 15 per cent on 2013 figures, while the median was an all time high €55,000.
