Fascinating Rock Wins Gr3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial

Tuesday, 13th May 2014

At Leopardstown in Ireland, Gr1-winning Danehill stallion Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a group success when progressive 3YO colt Fascinating Rock (Fastnet Rock-Miss Polaris, by Polar Falcon) scored by a head for trainer Dermot Weld in the €100,000 Gr3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (10 furlongs) for 3YOs, over fellow colt Ebanoran (Oasis Dream-Ebadiyla, by Sadler's Wells) & Geoffrey Chaucer (Montjeu-Helsinki, by Machiavellian). Fascinating Rock, who was awarded the race on protest after Ebanoran was originally first past the post, took his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Ballysax Stakes) from 4 starts for €107,280 earnings. The colt is now as short as 14-1 for the Investec Derby at Epsom on 7 June. "It's pretty certain he'll go for Epsom, I know the class of the horse, he's pretty smart, and the best is yet to come," Weld told racingpost.com.
