Hucklebuck Vulnerable First-Up

Tuesday, 13th May 2014

Adelaide trainer Phillip Stokes believes that high-class 3YO Hucklebuck (Elvstroem-Kondari, by O'Reilly) will be vulnerable when he returns in Saturday's Gr3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Hucklebuck, who arrived in Brisbane last Friday after a three-day float from Stokes' Morphettville base, hasn't raced since finishing eighth behind Shamus Award in the Gr1 Australian Guineas at Flemington on 1 March. "We were able to give him four weeks off after the Guineas and he seems to have come back very well," Stokes said. "He's first-up on Saturday over 1350 metres so he's going to be a little bit vulnerable," he added. Stokes confirmed that Hucklebuck's main winter target was the Gr2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm on 31 May. The Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap at the same track a week later is also an option.
