Mr O'Ceirin Peaking At Right Time

Tuesday, 13th May 2014

Caulfield trainer Ciaron Maher is expecting talented stayer Mr O'Ceirin (Postponed-Cadell, by Yachtie) to be at his peak for Saturday's Gr1 Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben, reports horseracing.com.au. The 6YO gelding will be having his third run this campaign when he lines up in the weight-for-age Winter Carnival feature and Maher couldn't be happier with his charge. "That was what we planned with him, to go into these races and really target them," Maher told AAP. "The horse has come up super. He has thrived up there. Glen Boss is going to ride him and he knows him well. He should hopefully peak for this. I think he'll take good improvement out of his last run." Mr O'Ceirin, whose last win was in the Gr2 Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield on 21 September, showed he was on track for another big race success when finishing an encouraging second behind top-class mare Streama in the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast last start. Mr O'Ceirin is currently a $7 chance with Tab.com.au for the Doomben Cup with exciting Zabeel galloper Leebaz favourite at $3.70.
