Oliver To Ride Derby-Bound Colt
Hall Of Fame jockey Damien Oliver has been booked to ride promising Queensland Derby-bound colt Pinstripe Lane (Pins-Singasong, by Danasinga), who will make his next appearance in the Gr3 Grand Prix at Doomben on 24 May, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 3YO son of Pins scored a strong 2-length win over 1900m at Rosehill on Saturday under apprentice Taylor Marshall. "I was rapt with him and he'll go to the Grand Prix in two weeks and then into the Derby after that," trainer Troy Corstens said. Pinstripe Lane showed plenty of staying potential last spring when finishing down the track in the Victoria Derby after finishing third in the Gr3 The Vase at Moonee Valley. Corstens said the colt was now more mature and was ready to step up this time around. "He raced in the Derby last year and he probably wasn't ready for that," Corstens said. "We gave him a good spell and really set him for the Queensland Derby. His number one target the whole preparation has been the Queensland Derby and now he's going to get his chance." Pinstripe Lane certainly has the bloodlines to be very good horse, being a direct descendant of champion Australian mare Emancipation. Emancipation, a six-time Gr1 winner, has been just as influential off the track with her daughters and granddaughters producing numerous stakes performers including Gr1 winners Railings, Virage de Fortune and Rumya.
