Palace Malice Cruises To Westchester Win

Tuesday, 13th May 2014

Also in the US, Palace Malice (Curlin-Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem) made easy work of the Gr3 Westchester Stakes (8 furlongs) at Belmont Park on Sunday when scoring an emphatic 9.75-length win over Declan's Warrior (Majestic Warrior) & I'm Steppin' It Up (Congrats) for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Dogwood Stables, reports bloodhorse.com. Last year's Belmont Stakes winner is now undefeated in three starts this year following earlier victories in the Gr2 Gulfstream Park Handicap and Gr2 New Orleans Handicap. The 4YO son of Curlin is expected to make his next start on 7 June in the US$1.25 million Metropolitan Mile on Belmont Stakes day. "We'll talk to Mr. Campbell [of Dogwood Stables], but we came into today with the idea that if this went well we'd look at the (Met Mile). He certainly ran well enough today to keep that as a top priority." Pletcher said. "He's 3-for-3, so far, this year. He doesn't seem to have any distance limitations, short or long…we're really excited about where he is, how he is doing, and hopefully there's more to come." Palace Malice boosted his record to 6 wins and 5 placings from 15 starts for US$1,961,135 earnings.
