Jakkalberry To Stand At Paxton Park
Globe-trotting 8YO stallion Jakkalberry (Storming Home-Claba di San Jore, by Barathea) will take up stud duties at Paxton Park in New Zealand this year, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Gr1 winner was retired in January this year after suffering a serious leg injury when preparing for the Dubai World Cup carnival. The Irish-bred Jakkalberry, who will stand at a fee of NZ$6000 + GST, campaigned in seven countries during his career, winning 12 of his 29 starts for over $2 million prize-money. Crowned champion older male in Italy in 2010 and 2011, Jakkalberry's finest moment came when winning the Gr1 Gran Premio di Milano (2400m). Among the other highlights of his career was his third placing in the 2012 Melbourne Cup behind Green Moon and Fiorente and the Sheema Classic behind Cirrus des Aigles and Sir Nicholas Abbey. Jakkalberry is out of the Barathea mare Claba di San Jore whose six foals to race have all won and includes Gr1 winner Crackerjack King, who has joined David Hayes' stable for a 2014 Cox Plate campaign.
