Srikandi Could Make Gr1 Debut In Stradbroke

Wednesday, 14th May 2014

Trainer Ciaron Maher is considering the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on 7 June as a potential target for exciting filly Srikandi, reports horseracing.com.au. The 3YO daughter of Dubawi has stamped herself as a smart young racehorse winning 4 of her first 5 starts, culminating with a last-start victory in the Listed Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast. Maher confirmed Srikandi, who is a half-sister to South African Gr3 winning mare Rain Gal (Galileo) and the stakes-placed Arjuna (Giant's Causeway), will line up in Saturday's Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) at Doomben and remains a chance of making her Gr1 debut in the Stradbroke Handicap at the end of her winter campaign. "She is absolutely flying and every time I take her to the races she improves," Maher said. "She'll run in the fillies and mares race here on Saturday then we'll see what happens. You never know, three-year-olds like her can get into the race (Stradbroke) with a light weight. You have to aim high sometimes." He added, "We'll just see what happens but she is certainly moving in the right direction."
