Commanding Jewel Close To Return

Thursday, 15th May 2014

High-class mare Commanding Jewel (Commands-Regard, by Zabeel) remains an outside chance of starting in next month's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Part-owner Brad Spicer said he would know more about when Commanding Jewel would return to racing after her scheduled trial next week. Spicer said much will depend on jockey Damien Oliver's feedback as to where the 4YO is likely to head. He said the other Queensland option for the Thousand Guineas winner was the Tattersall's Tiara, a fortnight after the Stradbroke. "The Stradbroke is still there, maybe a 15 per cent chance," Spicer said. "We'll take a lot from what Damien tells us. Her trial last week was pretty impressive." Commanding Jewel, a three-quarter sister to outstanding mare Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock), missed the spring and autumn carnivals due to a persistent hoof injury with trainer Leon Corstens opting to save her for a winter campaign.
