Shamkala Heads Diane Market

Friday, 16th May 2014

Exciting French filly Shamkala (Pivotal-Shamakiya, by Intikhab) maintained her unbeaten record and continued her inexorable march towards the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) with a facile win in the Gr3 Prix Cleopatre (10.5 furlongs) at Saint-Cloud on Wednesday, reports racingpost.com. With her owner, the Aga Khan and his daughter Princess Zahra in attendance, jockey Christophe Soumillon took Shamkala to the lead where she remained throughout, cruising to an effortless 0.75-length win for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre over fellow fillies Amour A Papa and Hug And A Kiss. The well related Sinnamary (Galileo-Prudenzia), a three-quarter sister to Irish Oaks heroine Chicquita, never looked likely, finishing in fifth. "She is a filly who is extremely easy to position in a race, she can go in front or behind," said Royer-Dupre. "She is among our very biggest hopes. It was a piece of work but a race nonetheless. She will go straight to the Prix de Diane from here." Shamkala is a dominant favourite for the Prix de Diane on 15 June at around 5-2, while her odds for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe also shortened to 20-1 (from 25).
