Teofilo Adds Ireland Gr3

Friday, 16th May 2014

At Naas in Ireland, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) added a group success when 3YO filly Tarfasha (Teofilo-Grecian Bride, by Groom Dancer) scored by 3.25-lengths for trainer Dermot Weld in the €75,000 Gr3 Blue Wind Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YO+ f&m, over 4YO mare We'll Go Walking (Authorized-Senora Galilei, by Galileo) & fellow 3YO filly Dazzling (Galileo-Secret Garden, by Danehill). This was the first stakes victory for Tarfasha who took her record to 2 wins and 2 placings (including the Gr3 Park Stakes) from 4 starts for €68,175 earnings. The win earned the Shadwell-owned filly a possible tilt at the Investec Oaks at Epsom next month. Speaking to racingpost.com after the race, trainer Dermot Weld commented: "I will discuss plans with Sheikh Hamdan and, while I realise that he owns the favourite [Taghrooda] for the race, I will be encouraging him to let this filly have a crack at the Oaks." He added, "Tarfasha is a good filly and that was a very nice performance for her first race of the year…she will appreciate faster conditions and she will love stepping up to a mile and a half. There's plenty to look forward to with her."
