Dan Excel Wins Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup

Monday, 19th May 2014

At Kranji racetrack in Singapore, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 success when Irish-bred 6YO gelding Dan Excel (Shamardal-Love Excelling, by Polish Precedent) improved on last year’s runner-up effort when scoring by 1.75-lengths for trainer John Moore in the S$3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m). Breaking a frustrating string of Gr1 placings, Dan Excel defeated 5YO entire Smoking Sun (Smart Strike-Burning Sunset, by Caerleon) & fellow 6YO gelding Military Attack (Oratorio-Almaaseh, by Dancing Brave) to take his record to 6 wins (including last year’s Gr1 HKJC Champions Mile, 2011's Gr3 Irish 2,000 Guineas Trial and 2010's Gr3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh) & 13 placings (including last start Gr1 HKJC Champions Mile, Gr1 HKJC Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup, Gr1 Hong Kong Gold Cup, Gr1 HKJC Stewards Cup – twice – and last year’s Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup) from 36 starts for €3,595,053 earnings.
