Olympic Glory Wins UK Gr1 Lockinge Stakes
At Newbury in the UK, multiple Gr1-winning shuttler & former star Australian sprinter Choisir (Danehill Dancer-Great Selection, by Lunchtime) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO entire Olympic Glory (Choisir-Acidanthera, by Alzao) scored by 2.25-lengths for trainer Richard Hannon in the £214,000 Gr1 Lockinge Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 6YO entire Tullius (Le Vie Dei Colori-Whipped Queen, by Kingmambo) and fellow 4YO entire Verrazano (More Than Ready-Enchanted Rock, by Giant's Causeway). Olympic Glory took his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Gr1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere & Gr2 Vintage Stakes) & 3 placings (including the Gr1 Prix Jacques Le Marois & Gr1 Prix du Moulin) from 12 starts for £1,211,713 earnings. The son of Choisir made a one-act affair of the Lockinge in what was his first outing since landing the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on 19 October. "That was as easy as riding work. He's a jockey's dream to ride," said Frankie Dettori, number one rider for owner Al Shaqab Racing. "I felt a bit of pressure today, but to see him travel and win like that is hugely encouraging," said trainer Richard Hannon. "These good horses get us all going, they don't come along very often." he added, "He doesn't need soft ground, he's able to act on this and goes on pretty much any ground. He's in the Queen Anne and the Prince Of Wales at Royal Ascot, but we'll have to wait and see."
