Hard Spun Filly Tops Yarradale Stud Sale
A daughter of Hard Spun from Gr2 winner Halibery (Red Ransom- Brown Eyed Girl, by Sir Tristram) topped the Yarradale Stud yearling sale at Gidgegannup on Sunday when knocked down to trainer Lindsey Smith for $70,000. Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers purchased Halibery in foal to Hard Spun at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale. Halibery was a talented filly winning 4 of her 10 starts including the G2 Schillaci Stakes and Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview for fillies. She was also runner-up in Victoria's premier race for juveniles, the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes behind Woodlands Stud gelding Kusi. Halibery foaled a filly by Yarradale sire War Chant last year before being bred to the Stud's new shuttler Frost Giant. Next best were a pair of Ad Valorem yearlings who sold for $65,000 each. The Ad Valorem-Long Walk colt is a full-brother to Sydney Gr3 winner Uate who sold to Roy Rogers, while the Ad Valorem-Lady Lightning filly is from a US-bred half-sister to G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Stevie Wonderboy and she will be trained by Paul Jordan. A War Chant-Shan Dian (Rory's Jester) filly also made $65,000 to the bid of Vern Brockman. Shan Dian is from the Gr3-winning Bletchley Park mare Paradise Park and is therefore a half-sister to brilliant West Australian galloper Grand Nirvana, winner of five Gr3 sprints in Perth. Yarradale sold 28 lots on Sunday at an average price of $33,535 with an excellent clearance rate of 85 per cent.
