Leading Light On Track For Gold Cup

Tuesday, 20th May 2014

At Navan in Ireland, deceased dual-Derby winning stallion & former shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when 4YO entire Leading Light (Montjeu-Dance Parade, by Gone West) scored by 3-lengths for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the £65,000 Gr3 Vintage Crop Stakes (13 furlongs) for 4YO+, over 8YO gelding Royal Diamond (King's Best-Irresistible Jewel, by Danehill) & 5YO mare Pale Mimosa (Singspiel-Katch Me Katie, by Danehill). This was an excellent seasonal reappearance by Leading Light who boosted his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 English St Leger, Gr3 Gallinule Stakes & Gr3 Queen's Vase) from 8 starts for £469,282 earnings. Aidan O'Brien said he was delighted with the return of Leading Light, who will be aimed at the Ascot Gold Cup next month. "I couldn't be happier. He had strengthened up over the winter and has been doing all the right things. He has progressed lovely. We haven't seen the bottom of him yet," he told racingpost.com.
