Red Ray Primed For Golden Horse Sprint

Tuesday, 20th May 2014

Talented South African colt Red Ray (Western Winter-Nacarat, by Pas De Quoi) is reportedly in fine form ahead of his return to racing in Saturday's R750,000 Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m) at Scottsville, reports goldcircle.co.za. Trainer Joey Ramsden said at the weekend: "Red Ray has been doing well and I'm hoping that he won't prove to have needed the run. He can be a bit lazy so I am sure he will come on from it but we have got quite a lot of work into him." The Gr1 sprint will be the 3YOs first outing since finishing second to top sprinting mare Via Africa in the Cape Flying Championship nearly four months ago when he reverted to sprinting after going close in the Cape Guineas and the R2 million Lanzerac Ready To Run. Red Ray and Captain Of All are the highest-weighted 3YOs in Saturday's race with 56.5kg but this age group has an outstanding record in the race, winning seven of the last nine renewals.
