Fasig-Tipton Sale Opens Strongly
The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2YOs in Training Sale opened with a strong session on Monday, with all key indicators recording increases on last year's figures, reports thoroughbreddailynews.com. A total of 168 horses sold for US$11,553,000 on Monday, up from the 2013 gross of US$7,235,000 for 121 horses. The average of US$68,768 was up 15 per cent from last year, while the median rose 7.8 per cent to US$34,500. The top price on day one was for a colt by War Front who sold for US$520,000 to the bid of bloodstock agent Steve Young. Consigned by Eisaman Equine as agent, the colt is from the Wavering Monarch mare Judy's Magic and is a half-brother to Gr1 runner-up She's Got The Beat. Two other horses fetched over US$500k with Stonestreet Stables paying US$510,000 for a More Than Ready filly, and Jake Ballis going to US$500,000 for a colt by deceased sire Unbridled's Song. Seven horses sold for US$300,000 or more on day one, matching the two-day total from a year ago. "It will be hard to match today, but I think we have some nice horses coming through tomorrow [Tuesday]," said Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sales director Paget Bennett. "We'll see some definite high spots tomorrow."
