Jet Away Back For Spring

Wednesday, 21st May 2014

Classy import Jet Away (Cape Cross-Kalima, by Kahyasi) is back in work with trainer David Hayes after recovering from a tendon injury sustained in the Mackinnon Stakes last spring. Hayes told racingvictoria.net.au the 7YO UK-bred entire is ready for a normal preparation after doing months of rehabilitation. "We've done a full re-hab and it's really looking good at the moment," Hayes said. "He's been set for all the majors in the spring. It's really good to see him back with a rider on doing normal work." The son of Cape Cross produced one of the performances of the spring last year when finishing fourth behind Fawkner in the Caulfield Cup after racing wide and making a long, sustained run 800 metres from home. He then started favourite in the Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) on Victoria Derby day, but injured his tendon during the race and finished unplaced. Jet Away boasts an exceptional pedigree. His dam, Kalima, is a full-sister to the outstanding producer Hasili, dam of top European stallion Dansili and his Gr1 winning siblings Cacique, Champs Elysees, Banks Hill, Intercontinental and Heat Haze.
