Seamus Seeking Firm Footing For Gr1 Bid

Thursday, 22nd May 2014

Trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith says that Famous Seamus (Elusive City-Clinique, by Dance Floor) needs a firm surface if he is to be any chance of registering successive Gr1 victories in Saturday's Doomben 10,000 (1350m) at Doomben, reports horseracing.com.au. The 5YO son of Elusive City upset some of the country's best sprinters when winning the Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on 10 May, defeating, among others, Gr1 winners Spirit Of Boom and Buffering. Mayfield-Smith said that if Famous Seamus gets conditions to suit, then he expects him to go close again. "If he gets a dry track he will be the one they have to beat," Mayfield–Smith told The Sydney Morning Herald. Mayfield-Smith will walk the track to check the condition of the surface after two weeks' of winter carnival racing and is hoping it is still in good shape. "I'll walk the track early in the week just to see how chopped up it is," he said. Famous Seamus faces an even tougher task this weekend, with quality speedsters such as Rebel Dane, Arinosa, Knoydart, Hot Snitzel and Driefontein joining Buffering, Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom in a competitive line-up.
