Star Colt Back In Work

Thursday, 22nd May 2014

Prodigiously talented colt Rubick (Encosta de Lago-Sliding Cube, by Rock of Gibraltar) has returned to trainer Gerald Ryan's Rosehill stable to begin preparations for an ambitious spring campaign, reports horseracing.com.au. Rubick announced himself as a high-class youngster when scoring a brilliant 7.5-length barrier trial win in January before debuting with an impressive victory in the TAB Iphone App 2YO Plate at Randwick, where he defeated subsequent stakes performers Twirl and Valentia by 2.8-lengths. The Encosta de Lago colt then ventured to Melbourne and stamped himself as  favourite for the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) with a tough win in the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude, but finished a disappointing fourth in the $1 million juvenile feature at Caulfield a fortnight later. Ryan sent Rubick straight to the paddock following his sub-par Blue Diamond run, conscious of the fact he had a big spring carnival ahead of him. "He looks well and has been back in the stable for two weeks," Ryan said. "He has grown, he has lengthened and he is better through the shoulders now than he was as a two-year-old. He has a great attitude and I like the way that he is at the moment." Ryan said Rubick will resume in the Gr3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens in August before heading south to prepare for his main spring target, the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
