Derby Hope Western Hymn Gallops At Lingfield
Western Hymn (High Chaparral-Blue Rhapsody, by Cape Cross) took another step towards the Investec Derby at Epsom on 7 June when working impressively on the all-weather at Lingfield on Wednesday, reports racingpost.com. The undefeated son of High Chaparral won the Gr3 Classic Trial at Sandown on his last start, easily defeating fellow Derby contender Snow Sky by 2.25-lengths. That form was then boosted when Snow Sky landed Lingfield's Derby trial earlier this month. Western Hymn worked strongly on Wednesday, pulling a few lengths clear of his galloping companion over the concluding stages, though once again exhibited a high head carriage which has been conspicuous at each of his three starts. Gosden appeared unconcerned by Western Hymn's head carriage, saying: "They went the mile in 1:37.10 going off sensible but coming home strongly. He did his usual playboy act but that's nothing new." He added, "The ground was pretty testing at Sandown but he did the job nicely and needs more experience. We'll probably take him to Epsom [for the Breakfast with the Stars press event] next week."
