Monday, 26th May 2014

At Ellerslie in New Zealand, Cambridge Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Tavistock (Montjeu-Upstage, by Quest For Fame) sired his first stakes winner, and a stakes quinella at that, when 2YO filly Avisto (Tavistock-Miraculous Miss, by Exceed and Excel) scored by 1.75-lengths for trainers John Sargent & Hayden Allen in the NZ$50,000 Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs, over 2YO gelding Midnitemagicman (Tavistock-Keep Alight, by Keeper) & 2YO colt Martiniz Special (Postponed-Pink Martini, by Show A Heart). Avisto took her record to 1 win and 2 placings from 4 starts for NZ$32,850 earnings. Tavistock, who hails from the same family as dual Gr2-winning stayer Precedence and Japan Cup winner Jupiter Island, won 6 of his 13 starts including the Gr1 Mudway Stakes, Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint and Gr2 Blamey Stakes, for over $500,000 in prize money. He stands at Cambridge Stud for a fee of NZ$7,000 + GST.
